Evelyn and Anne...

So...I am in the middle of reading American Eve, by Paula Uruburu. It's a hypnotic account of Evelyn Nesbit's life, America's first "it girl". If old school glamor and intrigue are something you delight in, I definitely recommend it.

But the point of this posting was to say that I had no idea that Evelyn's alluring image served as the model for Anne Shirley! As in Lucy Maud Montgomery's hallowed heroine in Anne of Green Gables. I am flabbergasted. I thought that AoGG promoted the importance of spirit over beauty. Have I been living all these years having gotten the wrong message???!!!!

Well, I cam across Looking for Anne of Green Gables: The Story of L. M. Montgomery and Her Literary Classic, the other day in the bookstore. If you, like so many girls, grew up with Anne, it looks like an excellent read. Hopefully it will shed a little light on Anne's mysterious creator, and perhaps her inspirations.

Oh the nostalgia!!!!!!!!!!!!
